We are thrilled to announce that we have made running and managing migrations even easier. The experience from many years of conemis migrations – ranging from very complex to not so complex – has cumulated in an overhaul of our usability. Release 23.2.0 of conemis transition cloud features Aura UI with significant enhancements designed to revolutionize your data migration experience. Aura UI makes it even easier to get started as a beginner and to navigate more efficiently as a pro.

This update introduces the innovative ‘Track’ concept, which means that the software will look like you expect it in a project. It follows our core principle of pre-building as much as possible but still allows for adjusting Dev, Test, Prod and other tracks according to your project terminology and methodology. This brings even more intuitive organization and greater flexibility in managing migration projects.

The 'Process View' streamlines migration tasks by breaking down the process into well-defined steps and guiding the user with a concise graphical representation. This makes getting started with a migration project a no-brainer.

Additionally, we've made critical navigation updates, including the integration of Tracks into the navigation hierarchy. In this blog post, we will dive deeper into each of these exciting new features and show how they can help you take your digital transformation projects to new heights.

Introducing Tracks

A Track represents a relationship between a source system connection and a destination system connection, streamlining the data migration process between old and new systems. You can now create multiple Tracks within a single Project, offering several benefits and use cases:

  1. Project Phases: You can use Tracks to represent different project phases, such as Test, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and Production (PROD). This helps ensure a smooth transition across various stages and keeps your project organized.
  1. Time-based Segmentation: By creating Tracks for specific time periods, you can manage your migration projects in a more structured manner, ensuring data integrity and reducing the risk of data loss during the process.
  1. Customized Workflows: Tracks can be adapted to suit your data migration team's specific needs, giving you more control over the process and allowing for more effective collaboration.

By focusing on Tracks, you can better visualize the relationships between source and destination connections and maintain a clearer understanding of your data migration projects.

Introducing Process View

This innovative feature simplifies the management of data migration tasks within each Track by breaking down the process into three well-defined steps. Each step groups related functionality to streamline the overall migration experience.

Step 1: Source Connection

The first step of the Process View focuses on the source connection and consists of two parts:

  1. Assess Source: Scan the source system to define the scope of the migration. This involves evaluating the data structure, as well as identifying relevant objects and fields for migration.
  1. Extract Data: Create and refine extract definitions to capture the necessary data from the source system, then execute the extracts to pull the relevant data.

Step 2: Configuration

The second step of the Process View is primarily centered on configuration, which consists of the following part:

  1. Configure Data Transformation: Define the mapping and transformation rules for the extracted data. This ensures that the data is correctly processed and structured before being loaded into the destination system.

Step 3: Destination Connection

The third and final step of the Process View is focused on the destination connection. It includes two parts:

  1. Assess Destination: Scan the destination system to ensure all objects and fields are up-to-date and prepared for data loading.
  1. Load Data: Transform the data according to the defined mapping and transformation rules, then load the data into the target system, completing the migration process.

Benefits of Process View

  • Streamlined Workflows: The well-organized structure of the Process View enables your team to efficiently manage and complete migration tasks in a step-by-step manner.
  • Enhanced Collaboration: By breaking down the migration process into clear steps, team members can more effectively communicate and collaborate on each aspect of the project.
  • Improved Visibility: The Process View provides greater visibility into the status and progress of each step, enabling better decision-making and control over your data migration projects.

Navigation Changes:

Enhanced Integration of Tracks

In order to better integrate the new Track concept into the conemis transition cloud, we have made several key updates to the platform's navigation hierarchy. These changes allow for seamless navigation between Projects, Tracks, and the Process View, improving the overall user experience as well as project management capabilities.

Project Dropdown

On the left side of the top navigation, you'll now find a Project dropdown that allows you to quickly switch between different projects. When you select a project, the view with all Tracks associated with that project will be displayed, making it easy to access and manage multiple Tracks in one place.

Track Selection and Process View

Upon selecting a Track, the Process View is displayed, providing an overview of the migration process and access to its various parts. Another dropdown appears in the top navigation, enabling you to conveniently switch between Tracks, as well as related connections and Process View parts, without having to go back to the main Track list or Process view.

Connection Navigation

When working within a specific part of the Process View, the top navigation will show a third element that displays the connection name and offers access to the available Process View parts for that connection. This streamlined navigation allows users to efficiently move between different connections and Process View parts without losing context while enhancing productivity and reducing the risk of errors.

Replacing Connections List with Tracks List

In order to further streamline navigation and enhance the user experience, we have made a notable change in the platform's sidebar menu. The previous list of connections, which was accessible through a left sidebar menu item, has been replaced by the new list of Tracks menu item.

This update aligns with the introduction of the Track concept (see above), as it allows you to quickly access and manage your Tracks and their associated connections directly from the sidebar menu. By focusing on Tracks, you can better visualize the relationships between source and destination connections and maintain a clearer understanding of your data migration projects.

Conclusion

The shift towards a Tracks-based navigation structure in the Aura UI does not only refine the platform's user interface but also enables users to manage their digital transformation projects with greater efficiency and effectiveness.

Experience the advantages of these enhancements firsthand by upgrading to conemis transition cloud 23.2.0 and elevate your data migration process to new levels of success.
